Now that summer is here the importance of hydrating correctly is super important. If you’ve had a hard workout on the morning it’s important to replace the fluid that you have lost. In one well studied case, American Marathoner Alberto Salazar lost 3.7 litres of sweat per hour in the Olympic Marathon of 1984. That’s heaps! That will take some replenishing but what we need to keep in mind is that you need to have it to lose it. So it’s really important to hydrate up before exercise. If you have a race coming up then start the hydration up to 72 hours before the race and it’s a good idea to sip water as often as you can. About 3 litres per day should do it.
